Description
This device uses an Edison Mazda 1W 2V bulb, Patt 1039A and can be powered by a rechargeable battery that you place in the box under the instrument.
It was used to identify the night escort, hence the reason for using a low power bulb (1 watt). In the RCN, it was used at close range, but only at night. The operator can choose one of five colored lenses – blue, red, green, white or clear. Inside the lid the label reads: "Admiralty Pattern 1038. Lantern Signaling Portable. For V/S. (Visual Signalling), serial No DS4942, year 1943" followed by instructions for use. Dimensions The box is width (12.7 cm), depth (8.8 cm) & height 7.5 (19 cm). Weight 1.77 Kg
